Table XI. gives the infantile death-rates of the several
wards of the borough since 1901, when particulars of the distribution
of the births were first obtained. The persistently high
rate of Walham Ward is especially noticeable, chiefly due to the
heavy mortality prevailing in Heckfield Place and the adjoining
Avenues.

TABLE XI. Deaths under one year per 1,000 Births.

The figures in brackets for 1906, 1907 and 1908 are the
rates after the distribution of the births in the Fulham
Workhouse.
Deaths of Illegitimate Infants
58 of the children who died before attaining the age of one
year were illegitimate, the mortality among them being in the
proportion of 252 deaths to every 1,000 births, compared with
111 deaths to every 1,000 births among children born in wedlock.
The following table gives the causes of deaths among
illegitimate infants.
