There were no instances where it was necessary to take any
steps in outwork being carried on in places where infectious disease
had occurred.
The lists of outworkers are now sent in with greater regularity,
and in cases of default an intimation to that effect usually brings
the information by return of post.

The tables set forth the details of the work which has been
carried out under the supervision of your Inspectors. The item of
New Buildings shows a decrease on the previous year, and, as might
be expected, the figures are the highest in the Dulwich and Herne
Hill districts.
They also show the character and number of the inspections
carried out by your Inspectors, but beyond testifying to the energy
and zeal of your Officers they call for no special remark.
Those which were made as the result of complaints were 1,326,
compared with 1,827 in 1907, while those which were systematic or
house-to-house in character numbered 5,238. The latter were
chiefly those in the poorer neighbourhoods, and in many instances
