registration under the Dairies, Cowsheds, and Milkshops Order of 1885, the
premises were also carefully inspected by me, and notices served to remedy any
sanitary defects.
The Sanitary Inspectors made 881 inspections of these premises; and 14
notices were served for breach of the regulations for preserving the purity of
milk, and for protecting it against infection or contamination.
There is now only one cowshed in the Borough, which is at 4, Goldsmith
Street, and was frequently inspected during the year,
ICE CREAM.
At the end of the year there were 42 premises in the Borough where ice
cream was manufactured or sold, and 139 inspections of these premises were
made and 8 notices were served.
As ice cream is often made in the early morning, inspections between 6 and
9 a.m. are also occasionally made in order to ascertain whether there are any
infringements of the London County Council (General Powers) Act, 1902.
During the year there was a prosecution for making ice cream in a shed
which was used as a living room. The Magistate, however, dismissed the
summons on a point of law.
UNSOUND FOOD.
Applications were received for the removal and destruction as trade refuse
of the following articles of food, all of which were unsound and unfit for the
food of man:—
2 cwt. meat.
1 crate herrings.
3 boxes kippers.
2 cases small fish.
14 baskets strawberries.
878 crates bananas.
169 bundles tomatoes.
6 bushels apples.
2 cases potatoes.
SMOKE ABATEMENT.
The smoke shafts in the Borough were frequently kept under observation,
and in 51 cases the inspections were recorded; 13 intimation notices and two
statutory notices were served.
