HOUSING OF THE WORKING CLASSES ACT, 1890.
Under Part I, of the Act.
WARNER STREET (ITALIAN COLONY) AREA.
Details of this area which was represented by me in July, 1901, were given
in my Annual Report for that year.
In successive Annual Reports I have given details of the few changes that
have taken place in the area, and of the correspondence that has taken place with
the London County Council, the Home Office, the Local Government Board, and
the principal freeholders respecting the matter.
I may now add that the Local Government Board, in a letter dated 24th
April, 1906, informed the Council that they had decided that they must direct
a Local Inquiry to be held.
This Local Government Board Inquiry was begun on the 12th June, 1906.
It was held at the Council's Offices, 197, High Holborn, before F. J. Willis, Esq.,
Barrister-at-Law, and L.W. Darra Mair, Esq., M.D., Local Government Board
Inspectors. The Inquiry was adjourned to June 25th, and after that day to
October 15th, and again to April 15th, 1907.

I may mention that the area included the following premises:—

Eyre Court, Nos. 1 to 12, inclusive.12
Eyre Terrace, Nos. 1, 2, and 3.3
Eyre Place, Nos. 1 and 2.2
Summers Court, Nos. 1 to 6, inclusive.15
Fleet Row, Nos. 1 to 15, inclusive.38
Eyre Street Hill, Nos. 6 to 31, inclusive, with No. 25a.27
Little Bath Street, Nos. 1 to 9, inclusive, with No. 4½.10
Summers Street, Nos. 1 to 20, inclusive.20
Warner Street, Nos. 24 to 58, inclusive.18
Warner Street—stables at the back of Nos. 42 and 48, which are approached by a covered way between Nos. 42 and 44.1
Back Hill, Nos. 1a, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, and a covered shed.13
(New numbers, 31 to 7 respectively, inclusive, odd numbers).127

The area therefore comprised about 125 houses and premises; 38 being in
the five small courts mentioned first in the above list. The area is about two
(1.86) acres in extent.
The population of the area at the time of representation was about 1170
persons, almost all of whom were Italians of the labouring class.
