For the information of the Committee I have appended figures
showing the incidence and mortality for five years in the case of
diphtheria and scarlet fever occurring amongst children attending
public elementary schools, also the number of cases of whooping
cough and measles reported from public elementary schools in
the Borough for two years, showing the incidence on the age
period 3 to 7, as well as the number and percentage of deaths
under 5 years of age. These figures, so far as Battersea is
concerned, sufficiently, in my opinion, bear out the undesirability
of the continued existence of infant schools.
I have the honour to be, Gentlemen,
Your Obedient Servant,
G. Quin Lennane,
Medical Officer of Health.
