Since the formation of the Borough and for the previous decennium, the infantile mortality in Battersea and in London had been as follows:—

In the above table, while the average rate in Battersea for
the quinquennium 1901-5 was 142.4 per 1,000, the average for
the three subsequent years 1906-8 had fallen to 116 per 1,000.
In the County of London during 1907 there was a total of
13,943 infant deaths, giving an infantile mortality rate of 113 per
1,000.
In the next table is shown the distribution of the 494 infant deaths in the sub-districts.
