Ninety-one of the shops are provided w ith ice safes.
The trade refuse is removed as follows: —

The premises generally are well kept, and are, on the whole,
in a satisfactory condition.
During 1908, 941 inspections of butchers' shops were made.
Sale of Food and Drug's Acts.
The object of these Acts is twofold in character—(a) to protect
the honest trader from fraudulent competition, and (b) to safeguard
the public from fraud, imposition ai d danger to health in
regard to food and drugs.
During the year 1908, 1,000 samples were purchased within the
Borough of Battersea and submitted to the Public Analyst for
analysis. Of the 1,000 samples, 115 {i.e., 11.5 per cent.) were
reported by the Analyst to be adulterated, and in addition 4 were
reported by him to be "inferior."
