Report on the health of the Metropolitan Borough of Battersea for the year 1908

Enteric Fever. During 1908, 36 cases of Typhoid Fever were notified in the Borough of Battersea, as compared with 37 in 1907 and 40 in 1906 ; and 7 deaths were registered, giving a case mortality of 19.4 per cent. In the following table are set out the case rate, death rate and case mortality from Enteric Fever since 1891.

On inspection of the above table, if a comparison be made
between the number of cases notified, and the number of deaths
registered from the disease in the Borough of Battersea during
1908, on the one hand, and the yearly averages for the ten years
(1891-1900) in the old Parish of Battersea on the other, it will be
noted that there is a very notable decrease. The yearly average
of cases notified in the Parish is 129.5, and the yearly average of
deaths registered was 22.8, as compared with 36 and 7 respectively,
the number of cases notified and deaths in the Borough
of Battersea during 1908.
