days, he had lived and slept out on Wandsworth Common. On
his discharge he was prosecuted, and fined 20s. and 2s. costs.,
the Magistrate taking into consideration the desire of the
Health Committee not to press for a heavy penalty.
Diphtheria and Membranous Croup.
The number of Diphtheria notifications received during
1907 (including Membranous Croup) in the Borough of
Battersea was 315, and show a marked increase over
that of 1906. It will be noted that the ascending
wave of epidemicity which started in that year continued in
1907. In 1905 the lowest number of cases ever previously
recorded in the Borough were notified, but during the following
year there was a decided rise in the number of cases notified in
Battersea, in common with the County of London, and there
are signs that we have not yet reached the summit of this
ascending: wave of incidence.
