TABLE D. Deaths in Sub-districts.
| DISTRICT. | Deaths. | Population. |
|---|---|---|
| North-East | 1,139 | 65,830 |
| South-West | 1,114 | 65,236 |

In the North-East District there were 1,139 deaths
and in the South-West 1,114. Twenty-two persons
who had no fixed home died in the Workhouse or in
the Infirmary. I have included these deaths in calculating
the general mortality of the Borough, but I
have excluded them when dealing with the subdistricts.
DEATH RATE
As the registration year 1908 included 53 weeks it
is necessary, in order to render statistics for this year
comparable with those of previous and future years,
to increase the estimated population by a proportionate
figure, for purposes of calculation only. Thus
corrected we shew a mortality for the year 1908 of
17.10. This is .33 per thousand below the rate for
the previous year but is over three points per thousand
(3.3) above the general Metropolitan rate. The death
rate for the whole of London is 13.8 and is 0.8 below
that of the previous year.
