Dangerous
Premises,
Premises Fire) During the year various premises were reported to
the London County Council as being most dangerous,
on account of their structure, should fire occur at any
of them. The following were the grounds on which
the representation was made: —
Staircases in centre; double off-rooms to each house all
let out to separate tenants; beyond staircase, over the head of
which there was a trap-door, the opening of which would form
of the staircase one great flue, and windows, there would be no
means of escape in case of fire.
Wooden partition between two houses at top of staircase.
Probably at one time both premises were in one occupation.
A reply was subsequently received from the London
County Council expressing inability to take action in
either case under the existing law.
