Since submitting the above in November we have
had the great advantage of perusing numerous reports
and proofs of evidence from almost every school of
thought in Sanitary Science. So much interest is
decidedly advantageous and the sobering effect of
official inquiry on the extreme faddist section is all to
the good. If no other good result is obtained
we shall at least have put a period to the vagaries of
the text book expert who in his lack of practical
experience and with desire to trap any and everything
he could lay hands on was fast reducing sanitary
procedure to ridicule and bringing discredit on the
whole thing.
The progress of the past few months is surprising.
The pro-Intercepting School are going so fast that
quite unconsciously they are completely giving away
whatever merits the system possessed. One authority
goes so far as to say that without the intercepting
system the Sanitary Inspector could not properly test
the drains after a case of fever had occurred. If this
be the whole case one can only say that both the
Inspector and the Interceptor System too must be in
a very bad way indeed. Another whose conventional
ideas are not even suspect has expressed the opinion
that the Interceptor Trap is of comparatively small
value. Others are appealing to the manufacturers to
press on with an improved Trap to meet the objections
raised in so many quarters and on the whole those
who ventured to suggest there was at least a case for
inquiry have during the past three months got greater
justification then they could have hoped for or
anticipated this side the next ten vears or more. No
First results of
the Inquiry.
Justification
for those who
asked for an
Inquiry.
