TABLE D. Deaths in Sub-districts.
| DISTRICT. | Deaths. | Estimated Population. |
|---|---|---|
| North East | 1,069 | 65,716 |
| South West | 1,178 | 65,115 |
| Previous Residence unknown | 34 | — |
| Total | 2,281 | 130,831 |
In the North East District, out of an estimated
population of 65,716, there were 1,069 deaths; in the
South West District, out of 65,115, there were 1,178;
in addition to these, thirty-four homeless persons died
in the Workhouse or Infirmary; these persons either
could not or would not give any information to the
authorities as to the Parish to which they were
chargeable. As probably a similar condition of things
obtains in every Poor-law district throughout London,
these Workhouse deaths are properly included in
calculating the general mortality of the Borough; but
I do not take them into consideration when dealing
with the Sub-districts.
DEATH RATE.
On the corrected number of deaths we show a
mortality for the year 1907 of 17.43, this is 1.4 per
thousand below the rate for the previous year, but is
nearly three (2.83) per thousand above the general
Metropolitan rate. The death rate for the whole of
London was 14.6, and was 0.5 below that of the
previous year.
