Pails should be sent out with vehicles; and watering
horses, except by such means of such pails and with
water drawn from a stand-pipe or tap, should be
prohibited.
Horses should be kept under good sanitary conditions,
and it is especially important to well ventilate all
stables, both near the roof and near the floor, and keep
them clean and regularly limewashed.
Human Glanders.
All persons who have anything to do with glandered
or farcied animals should bear in mind the following
facts—
The disease can be communicated to man by
discharge from the nostrils or other parts of a
diseased animal or carcase.
The disease in man is almost always fatal.
It is specially dangerous for any person with
scratches or sores on the hands or face to handle
diseased horses or carcases.
By care and strict attention to cleanliness the
danger of inoculation is avoidable.
Notification by Veterinary Surgeons.
Every Veterinary surgeon employed to examine any
animal or the carcase of an animal affected with
glanders in the County of London is required to give
notice of the fact to an Inspector of the London
County Council.
