BIRTHS.
During the year, 1,437 births were registered, an increase of 16
as compared with the number, 1,421, registered in the previous year.
Of the total births, 721 were of male, and 716 of female children.
The birth-rate was 16.0 per 1000 of the population, as compared
with the rate of 16.1 per 1000 in 1905, and 18.2, the average for the
years 1896—1905.
The following Table shows the birth-rates in 1906 for England and Wales, the 76 Great Towns, the 142 Smaller Towns, England and Wales less these 218 Towns, London and Hampstead:—
