THE BIRTH RATE.
The total number of Births registered in the Borough of
Lewisham during the year 1904 was 3,589. Of this total 1,802
were males and 1,787 females.
The birth rate for Lewisham is therefore 25 6 per 1,000
inhabitants, compared with 26.1 in the previous year.
The birth rate for London was 27.9 per thousand, or 2.3
per thousand in excess of this Borough.
Of the total births, 469 were registered in the Lee
division, 1,967 in Lewisham, and 1,153 in Sydenham and
Forest Hill division.
The birth rate in Lee was 24.2, in Lewisham 25.9, and
in Sydenham and Forest Hill 25.5 per 1,000 of the inhabitants
of each division.
