PUERPERAL DISEASES.
There were 14 deaths from the diseases which this heading embraces,
namely, Puerperal Pyaemia, Septicaemia, Saprsemia, Septic Intoxication, and
the indefinite appellation " Puerperal Fever."
These deaths, all of which occurred between the ages of 20 and 45, were
in the proportion of 1.57 per 1,000 births that occurred during the year. This
proportion is considerably higher than the average for the ten years 1894-1903,
during which it was 1.04 per 1,000 births.
