Removal of Dust.—The ashes, refuse, and dust from houses was
removed with system and regularity, and so far as a weekly removal can be
considered satisfactory it was particularly worthy of approval.
Indeed, the dusting department may be heartily congratulated on the
manner in which they have executed the work devolving on them, (or during
the twelve months only 116 applications were made to the Public Health
Department to have the dustbins cleansed, which is at the rate of onequarter
per cent, of the separate assessments.

The following statement shows how great an improvement has been effected in the removal of dust since 1891:—

Dust Receptacle.—During the year 835 dust receptacles were provided,
while 138 were repaired. At the present time a strong attempt is being made
to compel owners of property to provide new dust bins in substitution for those
that are out of repair. Some trouble, however, is being experienced with
property owners because very many of them consider that they should be
provided by the tenants, while others seem to think that the Council should
supply them.
