SHELTER HOUSE.
The Shelter House was occupied by only five persons during the year on
account of Scarlet Fever in the homes. It was, however, used to give
baths to three verminous persons, while it was also used to shelter six nurses
while they underwent disinfection after Puerperal Fever.
It need not be pointed out that it was not built for either the bathing of
verminous persons or the disinfection of nurses, and that if it had happened
that any serious disease, such as Small Pox, had occurred, it would have been
impossible to carry out the obligations resting on the Council under the
Verminous Persons Act, or with respect to the disinfection of midwives after
attendance on cases of Puerperal Fever. It is most satisfactory, therefore,
to know that the Council, fully recognising their responsibility, have decided to
erect suitable buildings for each of these purposes.
