Diphtheria infected 29 premises wherein the undermentioned businesses
were carried on:—Butcher, Bootmaker, Baker, Boarding House, Beer Bottler,
Draper, Furrier, Fruiterer, Grocer, Greengrocer, Hairdresser, Laundry, Newsagent
and Public House.
Occupation of the Persons Attacked.—Particulars respecting 1,230
cases of infectious diseases were obtained, and naturally the great bulk of these
were referred to the heading "School Children," of whom 871 were infect d.
A full statement is given in Table CX., page 140.
Small Pox attacked, among others, a builder, a glazier, a labourer, a
porter, and a packer.
Scarlet Fever, besides attacking the school children already mentioned,
infected persons pursuing the following occupations:—Accountant, bag maker,
butcher, bookbinder, clerks, carpet makers, chemists, dressmaker, errand boy,
feather curler, hatter, jeweller, laundress, leather worker, messenger, mother's
help and nurse.
Enteric Fever was responsible for attacks on persons carrying on the
following businesses or professions, among others:—Agent, architect, bag
maker, bricklayer, baker, barman, clerk, coachman, caiman, chemist, charwoman,
cabman, dressmaker, furrier, hairdresser, housekeeper, labourer,
laundress, milkman, painter and pawnbroker.
Erysipelas infected 168 persons engaged in various occupations.
