ISOLATION OF THE NOTIFIABLE INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
Of the 1,942 cases that were notified, 1,467, or 75.5 per cent., were received
into hospitals for isolation and treatment, as compared with 72.6 per cent. in
the preceding year. The percentage of these cases has shown a progressive
increase for several years, as it has risen from 48.4 per cent. in 1896 to 75.5
last year.

The cases removed or treated in hospital included 17 of Small Pox, 1,024
of Scarlet Fever, 260 of Diphtheria, 108 of Enteric Fever, 1 of Typhus, 46 of
Erysipelas, and 11 of Puerperal Fever.
The Metropolitan Asylums Board Hospitals received the great majority of
these cases, the particulars of which are set out in the following table.
