ENTERIC FEVER.
One hundred and twenty-six cases of enteric fever, equal to an attack rate
of 0.37 Per 1,000 of the population, were notified, as against a decennial average
of 247, and a rate of 0.72 per 1,000. The return was the smallest hitherto
recorded. This is particularly gratifying as it followed one which had hitherto
been the lowest record, namely 130 in 1903.
Thirteen cases were notified in the first quarter, 19 in the second, 52 in
the third, and 42 in the fourth.
In the County of London the attack rate was 0.14 per 1,000, and in the
Encircling Boroughs 0.55.
Hospital Isolation. All the cases, except 18, were treated in hospital
so that in all 85.7 per cent, were removed from their homes.
Fatality.—Eighteen out of the 126 known cases died, so that the fatality
was 14.3 per cent. Of the hospital cases only in per cent, died, compared
with 33.3 per cent, that remained at home.
