INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
The number of notifications of infectious diseases in the Borough during 1902 was very small
in comparison with any of the preceding ten years. The number of notifications being only 349 in
comparison with a decennial average of 644.
The number of deaths from the seven principal zymotic diseases, viz.:—Smallpox, Measles,
Scarlet Fever, Diphtheria (including Membranous Croup) Whooping Cough, Fever (including Enteric
or Typhoid, Typhus and Continued Fever), and Diarrhoea, was only 70 during the year in comparison
with a decennial average of 160. The zymotic death-rate was also very low having been only 1-21
per 1,000 of the population in comparison with 2"39 for the year 1902.

Small-pox, Measles, Scarlet Fever, Diphtheria (including Membranous Croup), Whooping Cough,
Fever (including Enteric or Typhoid, Typhus and Continued Fever) and Diarrhoea, and the deathrate
from these diseases were: —
