INFANTILE MORTALITY.
There were 1,219 deaths among the 9,214 births registered during the
year. These represent an infantile mortality rate of 132 per 1,000 infants
born. This rate is particularly satisfactory, for it has only been equalled once
in recent years, namely, in 1888, when it was identical with the rate now
recorded.
The rate is also below the rates of England and Wales, of the 76 Great
Towns, of the 103 Other Large Towns, and of London. It was also lower than
the aggregate rate of the Encircling Districts, but above the rates experienced
in Hornsey, Stoke Newington and Hackney. It was, however, considerably
lower than the mortality rate in St. Pancras, Finsbury and Shoreditch.
The Infantile Mortality in the Sub-Registration Districts was as follows:—
Deaths under one year. | Births. | Deaths per 1,000 Births. | |
