Persons in the Public Health Department Staff Exposed to
Infection.—I think it ought to be known that every member of the Public
Health Department Staff had been re-vaccinated* at the commencement of the
epidemic unless he had previously been similarly protected, and that not one
of them contracted the disease. Altogether 42 persons were exposed to direct
infection, and 7 to indirect infection. The former included those officials
*This statement has since proved to be incorrect because a stripper, who had falsely assured
me that he had been successfully re-vaccinated, contracted the disease while cleansing a room in
which a sporadic case of Small Pox had occurred. He was the only person who had not been
re-vaccinated, and his seizure emphasizes the protecting influence of re-vaccination.—A.E H
