Forty-seventh annual report on the health and sanitary condition of the Borough of Islington

ChIcken Pox.—Apart from the notIfIcatIons receIved from medIcal men
whIle the dIsease was compulsorIly notIfIable, InformatIon respectIng 482
cases was sent In by the school teachers. When, however, the dIsease
became legally notIfIable the notIfIcatIons from the schools became fewer,
although they never entIrely ceased. None of the cases proved to be Small
Pox.
WhoopIng Cough.—InformatIon respectIng 326 cases was receIved,
although the teachers of many of the schools altogether faIled to notIfy thIs
dIsease.
Other DIseases IncludIng Mumps, and other chIldren's aIlments, some
of whIch, such as Itch and scald head, are not notIfIable by the teachers, were
notIfIed In 295 Instances.
It would be ungracIous If your MedIcal OffIcer of Health dId not once
more express hIs gratItude to the teachers of the PublIc Elementary Schools
for the great assIstance they have afforded hIm durIng the year. He can
assure them that theIr InformatIon has been of the greatest servIce In
checkIng dIsease not only among theIr own scholars, but also among
chIldren attendIng other schools.
Closure of School Class Rooms.—Classrooms In the Infants'Departments
of the followIng schools were closed because of the presence of
measles:—
FIrst Quarter: None.
Second Quarter: Poole's Park Board School; Upper Hornsey Road
Board School; GIllespIe Road Board School.
ThIrd Quarter: None.
Fourth Quarter: None.
