Forty-seventh annual report on the health and sanitary condition of the Borough of Islington

The request contained in this circular letter was responded to very
readily, and at once abundant information was received. Enquiries addressed
to the parents or guardians were then directed to the following matters:—
1. If a doctor was in attendance.
2. If there was no doctor, the age of the child.
3. If the child had been vaccinated, and if the marks were visible.
If the child was attended by a medical practitioner there was no cause for
further enquiry, although of course the precautions usual in the case of all
infectious diseases were recommended and taken.
If the child had been vaccinated then the case was looked on almost
to a certainty as not being Small Pox.
If the child had not been vaccinated, and if there was no doctor in
attendance, then your Medical Officer held himself in readiness to visit the
case, but fortunately this was seldom necessary.
