The number of times the shelter has been in use during the five years ending 1905 and the number of "contacts" housed were as follows:—

Year.Times used.Contacts housed

In the event of an outbreak of Cholera in the Borough
the Council is prepared to receive "contacts" to the
extent of the accommodation at its disposal.
CUSTOMS AND INLAND REVENUE ACTS,
1890 to 1903,
Applications for certificates under these Acts were
made in respect of the following buildings:—
Cambridge Buildings, Darling Row, Nos. 34, 35, 36, 39, 40, 41, 43,
and two basements, eight tenements in all. Upon inspection,
the premises were found to be in a dirty and neglected condition,
several of the w.c.'s were choked and all of them were
filthy, the sink wastes were defective, the yards ill-paved and
strewn with rubbish, moreover the w.c. accommodation did
not comply with my requirements as only a single closet is
provided for each two lettings. I consider the application a
piece of colossal impudence. The application was of course
refused, and by order of the Public Health Committee a full
sanitary notice was served and enforced.
Church Street, No. 30 (six tenements). The certificate was refused
as the lower portion of the building is used for trade purposes.
Ross House, Moss Street (six tenements). The construction and
arrangement of these buildings is satisfactory, but as the
passages, staircases and several of the rooms were in a dirty
condition at the time of my visit the certificate was refused,
but was granted after the necessary cleansing had been
effected.
