This figure which is equivalent to a rate of 7.2 per 1000 of the
population is an increase on that for the year 1903 when 597 marriages
were registered

BIRTHS
During the year 1,445 births were registered a decrease of 8 as
compared with 1453 registered in the previous year. Of the total 736
were of male and 709 of female children The birth-rate was 16.7
per 1000 of the population as compared with the rate of 17.0 per 1000
in 1903 and 19.0 the average for the years 1894-1903
