Below is given a table showing the actual number of " refusals "
given to the dustmen during each week, and the number of " no
answers " given to their knocks. This table is a most interesting one
because by it I am able to compare the efficiency of the dust collection
with previous years.
The following table viewed by itself does not, perhaps, convey the
idea of a complete weekly collection of house refuse from occupied
dwellings ; for on calculating the average number of " refusals " and
" no answers " for the year, the former are seen to number 5,012 per
week and the latter 650 per week. These amount to a little over
18 per cent.of the houses visited by the dustmen where they are not
able to remove the house refuse.
