month of September I made representations as follows to the Public
Health Committee respecting 1 to 13, Saxony Cottages, Mare-street
HOUSING OF THE WORKING CLASSES ACT, 1890, PART II,
1 to 13, Saxony-cottages Mare-street.
Town Hall, Hackney, N.E.
22nd September, 1904.
To the Members of the Public Health Committee, Hackney
Borough Council.
Gentlemen,
I beg to report to you, in pursuance of Section 32 of the Housing
of the Working Classes Act, 1890, that on the 30th day of August
last, I inspected the Dwelling Houses situate at and known as
4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Saxony Cottages, Mare Street, within your district,
and of which Mr. Willie Day, Corporation Avenue, Westclifi-on-Sea,
is the owner.
I found such dwelling houses to be in the state hereinafter
set forth, which, in my opinion, is so dangerous or injurious to
health, that the said houses are unfit for human habitation.
State of Dwelling Houses.
The walls are damp; the drains are defective; there is no
through ventilation beneath the ground floor, and the whole of
these houses are very decayed and dilapidated.
I have the honour to be, Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
J. KING WARRY, M.D.
Medical Officer of Health.
