To the Mayor, Aldermen, and Councillors
of the Metropolitan Borough of Battersea.
Mr. Mayor, and Gentlemen,—
I have the honour to place before you my fifth and last
Annual Report on the Health of Battersea.
In this, as in my previous Reports, I have endeavoured not
only to deal with the facts belonging to the year under report,
but also to compare these facts with those recorded in previous
years, so that it may be possible to follow the development
and progress of the Council's public health work, and also
the results of that work.
Those results afford legitimate grounds for satisfaction.
A remarkable reduction has been effected in the death-rate,
the prevalence of diphtheria and enteric fever has been very
greatly lessened, and there has been a gratifying fall in the
infantile mortality.
I am glad to take this opportunity of thanking the Health
Committee for their support during my term of office, which I
have greatly valued. To the Staff of the Health Department
my thanks are due for their help and loyal co-operation, always
most willingly given, during the time I have been associated
with them in the work of the Department.
I have the honour to be,
Mr. Mayor, and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
G. F. McCLEARY,
Medical Officer of Health.
February 15th, 1906.
