Marriages.
The marriages registered during the year numbered 1,465,
or 102 more than the decennial average, and 23 more than the
number in 1903. The marriage-rate, i.e., the number of
persons married per 1,000 population was i6.7, or .5 above
the decennial average. It will be seen that although the birthrate
has steadily declined, the marriage-rate is higher now than
it was ten years ago.
