of this possible centre of infection as we should have had, had the
address been correctly given, our first intimation being that the
patient was suffering from the disease. Fortunately we were able
to obtain the prompt revaccination of all persons who had been
in contact with this patient, and no spread of the disease
occurred. A case of this character only shows the necessity for
some penalty to attach to persons who knowingly give false
addresses in this way, for it is quite conceivable that had this case
not been promptly notified by the Medical Attendant of the
patient, a serious spread of the disease might readily have
occurred.
The fourth case occurred in the person of an adult female
from the Charlton district, who was being treated in the Plumstead
Infirmary. In this case, however, the diagnosis of Small-pox was
not confirmed by the Medical Officer to the Asylums Board, and
the patient was returned.
All these patients were treated at the Metropolitan Asylums
Board's Hospitals and made a satisfactory recovery.
The Vaccination Officer for the Greenwich Union has again
very kindly supplied me with the usual particulars respecting the
vaccination of children whose births were registered in his
portion of this Borough up to June, 1905, which returns, I am
sure, must be considered to be of a most satisfactory character
and highly creditable to the Officer concerned, for in the Parish
of Greenwich for the year 1904, after allowing for the cases of
removal and cases not found, there appears to be only one
defaulter, and in the return for the first half of 1905, after
allowing similarly, only two defaulters.
