system, did not amount to more than 1s. 6d. per ton; under the system
of destruction by fire, the cost is 3s. 6½d. per ton ; so that really
there is a great increase in the cost of disposal. A compensating
advantage which must be attached to the more modern system of
dust disposal is that of being more sanitary.
Distributing the total cost for the removal and destruction
of house refuse during the year 1905 over the whole population
of the Borough, it amounts to 1s. 3½d. per head.
