Infant Mortality.βThe deaths of infants under one year of age
in the Borough of Hackney numbered 822 during 1905. This is
equivalent to an infantile mortality of 140 per 1,000 births. This
rate is lower than that for 1904, the infantile mortality for the
latter year being 155 per 1,000 births. This decrease last year
in the infant mortality is no doubt connected with the diminished
prevalence of infectious disease in the Borough, as well as more
moderate temperature during the summer and early winter months.
The following are the infantile death rates for the Borough of Hackney, compared with the rates for all London during the years 1894-1905:β
