THE SHELTER.
During the year 1905 there were admitted to the shelter 93
persons, 21 of which were men, 29 women arid 43 children, while
their homes were being disinfected and cleansed. This is a slightly
less number than those admitted during 1904. The cost of maintenance
for the year was £18 2s. 6d., and the average period of stay
in the shelter was 2.4 days. The table on page 85 gives further
particulars concerning these contacts.

CLEANSING OF PERSONS ACT, 1897
During the year 1905 the facilities provided under the above Act
by the Borough Council were to a much greater extent made use of.
The total number of persons bathed and cleansed during that year
was 241. The number during the previous year was 9. The
satisfactory result during last year was no doubt the result of sending
a copy of the following notice to all the hospitals and infirmaries
in the district, to the medical practitioners and head masters of
schools, making more public the fact that facilities existed for
the cleansing of persons affected with parasitic disease.
