the
Chief Inspector's Eighth Annual Report
on the work of the
PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT,
for
The Year ending December 31st, 1903.
To the Chairman and Gentlemen of the Public health Committee
of the Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Qreen.
Mr. Chairman and gentlemen,
In presenting my Animal Report on the work of your department
for the past year, it has been suggested to me that a more
useful purpose might probably be served by breaking away from
the usual custom of presenting a more or less uninteresting array
of figures and details, and to examine the present position and
powers of a Health Authority in relation to its duties to the
public, for whose health and sanitary well being such Authority
is in the main responsible.
Year after year the Annual Report records an enormous
amount of good useful work, and I am fully satisfied that the
work of the year now under review, is, when measured by ordinary
standards, equal to any that has gone before it.
