Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Green.
REPORT.
TO THE MAYOR, ALDERMEN, AND COUNCILLORS OF THE
METROPOLITAN BOROUGH OF BETHNAL GREEN.
Gentlemen,
I have the honour to place before you my Twenty-eighth
Annual Report on the Vital Statistics and Sanitary condition of
the Borough of Bethnal Green.
The Report covers the 52 weeks included in the registration
year, which terminated on the 2nd January, 1904.
ESTIMATE OF POPULATION.
The population of Bethnal Green is set down by the Registrar
General, in his Quarterly Reports for the past year, at 130,028.
This figure is calculated upon the rate of increase obtaining
between the Census Returns of 1890 and those of 1900, and is, of
course, merely an estimate; but as no better method of calculation
is available, I accept it as representing our numbers in the
middle of the year 1903.
BIRTHS.
The total number of births registered in Bethnal Green during
the year is 4,627, against 4,589 in 1902, an increase of 38.
The excess of the births over the deaths is 2,264. Table "B"
shews this, and compares the two years.
