The number of inhabited houses in the area is 89, the population is as
nearly as can be ascertained 532 persons, the average mortality amongst whom
for the three years, 1899, 1900 and 1901, is 38.2 as against 21.5 for the whole
of Bethnal Green for the same period. A statistical table is enclosed herewith,
also a map of the district, indicating in colour the condition of every house in
the area The houses coloured green are modern buildings, those coloured
red are for the most part old and more or less dilapidated (but capable of
repair), those coloured blue are for various reasons unfit for habitation.
The area has been viewed by the members of the Public Health Committee
of this Council. They support this representation, with an additional expression
of opinion that the houses in Globe Road, North from the corner of
Lansdell Place to the corner of Green Street, and those from the corner of
Green Street (Eastwards) up to and including the houses on the West side
of Baker Street, should be included in any scheme for reconstruction, so as to
obtain a proper frontage to Globe Road and Green Street.
I have the honour to be, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
GEORGE PADDOCK BATE
Mr dual Officer of Health for the Borough of Bethnal Green
