Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Green
REPORT.
TO THE MAYOR, ALDERMEN, AND COUNCILLORS OF THE
METROPOLITAN BOROUGH OF BETHNAL GREEN.
Sir and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit for your consideration my
twenty-seventh Annual Report on the Vital Statistics and Sanitary
condition of the Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Green. The
period covered by this report includes the 52 weeks of the registration
year 1902, which terminated on Saturday, January the 3rd,
1903.
ESTIMATE OF POPULATION.
The Registrar General estimates the population of Bethnal Green
in the middle of the year under consideration at 129,889 ; this estimate,
however, does not take into consideration the Alien influx
which has been steadily going on for some years past. As I have no
means of ascertaining the actual numbers of these immigrants, it
will be convenient to accept the official figures, which are calculated
upon the rate of increase obtaining during the decade 1890-1900
