Mortality at different Ages.
Infantile Mortality.—Of the 2,488 deaths registered, 708 or
28.3 per cent, were of infants under one year of age, and the
rate of infant mortality measured by the proportion of deaths
under one year to births registered was equal to 148 per 1,000.
The corresponding rate of the County of London was 139
per 1,000, the rates in the various boroughs ranging from 87 in
Hampstead, 107 in Marylebone and 115 in Stoke Newington to
155 in Bethnal Green and in Bermondsey, 166 in Southwark
and 174 in Shoreditch.
