Births.—During the year 1893, there were 6,900 births registered
in the District of Hackney. Of these 3,417 were males and 3,483 were
females. This is equal to a birth-rate of 28.8 per 1,000 inhabitants.
Compared with 1892, there has been a total increase of 142 births.

Marriages.—The number of marriages which were solemnized in
Hackney during the year 1893 was 1,776. This is equal to a rate of
14.8 per 1,000 against 17.2 per 1,000 for all London. The Hackney
rate for the year 1892 was 15.7.
DEATHS.
General Death-rate.—During the fifty-two weeks of the year 1893,
4,233 deaths were registered in the District of Hackney. Of these,
2,108 were males and 2,125 were females. But these figures do not
