The births in the sub-districts point to an increase of population
in Stoke Newington and Hackney, and in a slighter degree,
in South Hackney, but not so as regards the other two
sub-districts. Taking the returns of late years for all London,
we may assume, however, that the decrease of population, if
any, in the Stamford Hill and West Hackney registration
sub-districts, has been but slight. The sub-registration districts
do not, however, correspond with the wards or other divisions
of the parish of Hackney, as the Stamford Hill sub-district
includes Stamford Hill and Upper Clapton, the Hackney subdistrict
includes Lower Clapton, Clapton Park, Dalston, Hackney
proper, Hackney Wick, and nearly all Homerton, being
therefore an enormous sub-district. The total number of births
