Deaths from suffocation in bed with parents showed a
slight decrease during the year, fifteen deaths being recorded
from this cause compared with seventeen in 1899, eighteen in
1898, twenty-one in 1897, and twenty in 1896. Notwithstanding
the reduction it remains a very serious matter that in five years
ninety-one infants should die from suffocation due to the
carelessness of parents. Drunkenness of parents no doubt, in
many cases, is the contributing factor, and it is therefore of
interest to compare the days upon which the deaths occurred
and which are here set out. It must be remembered that the
day refers to the morning on which the death of the children
was discovered:—
Sunday 1
Monday 1
Tuesday 1
