During the year I received information of 14 cases of
Anthrax that have been treated at Guy's Hospital. On
page 22 I give further details respecting these cases, and the
facts that are known about the disease, and means of preventing
it.
The question of the joint use by this Board of the
Mortuary at Guy's Hospital was discussed and considered by
Guy's Hospital and the Board, but no satisfactory agreement
could be determined, and the matter was finally abandoned.
At Guy's Hospital there are also the desirable adjuncts
to a Mortuary, a Post-mortem Room, Coroner's Court, and
Chapel.
It is desirable that an elementary knowledge of the
principles of health, of nursing the sick, and the proper
methods of feeding children, should be taught in the advanced
classes at all girls' schools.
The Board made an attempt to disseminate some knowledge
of this kind by having a thousand leaflets with directions
relating to these matters distributed in the District.
A now public urinal has been erected in Joiner Street, on
the site of the old one, which was frequently a source of
nuisance.
The final Report of the Royal Commission on Vaccination
was published the latter part of the year. I give a short
abstract of this most important Report. It is to be hoped
that this will give a stimulus to increased vaccination and revaccination.
I also give an abstract of the results of an inquiry by the
Local Government Board concerning the Oyster Culture of
Great Britain and its relation to disease.
