Inquests.
161 inquests were held in this District; only 15, however,
were on the bodies of parishioners. 140 of these inquests
were held in the Coroner's Court at Guy's Hospital, and 21 in
the St. John's Vestry Hall.
Mortuary.
32 bodies were removed to the Mortuary in Weaver's Lane,
and on 21 of these a Coroner's inquest was held in the
St. John's Vestry Hall, Fair Street. 12 were bodies of nonparishioners
that were found in the Thames.
The question of the joint use by this Board of the
Mortuary at Guy's Hospital was discussed and considered by
Guy's Hospital and the Board, but no satisfactory agreement
could be determined, and the matter was finally abandoned.
At Guy's Hospital there are also the desirable adjuncts
to a Mortuary, a Post-mortem Room, Coroner's Court, and
Chapel.
A suitable ambulance for the removal of dead bodies,
three additional light zinc-lined shells, and three shrouds, have
been supplied by the Board.
Temperature.
The mean temperature of the year was 50°.l F , being 1°.6
above the average of the preceding 125 years. Further
meteorological details are given in the Appendix.
