Just a word or two about the Zymotic diseases. During the year all but
31 of the deaths in this class were registered from Scarlet Fever,
Diphtheria, Measles, Whooping Cough, and Diarrhœa. In fact, 182 lives
were sacrificed by these five diseases. Large as this number appears, it is
fewer by 35 than was the case in the preceding year. Contrasting the
years 1895 and 1896, I find the following figures to be correct:-
