PUBLIC BATHS AND WASH-HOUSES.
In April last the Public Baths and Wash-houses Committee
submitted their first Report and Statement of
Accounts, which was received and approved by the Vestry,
as follows:—
REPORT of the PUBLIC BATHS and WASH-HOUSES
COMMITTEE,
For the 15 Months commencing 1st January, 1896, and ending
25th March, 1897.
Board Room,
Marshall Street, W.,
April, 1897.
In accordance with the Bye-laws of the Vestry, the Public
Baths and Wash-houses Committee present the following Report
relating to their proceedings and the establishment under their
control, together with an Abstract of Accounts for the fifteen
months, ended 25th March last.
It will probably be in the minds of most Vestrymen that the
Baths and Wash-houses were transferred to the Vestry by an
order of the Local Government Board, under the Local Government
Act, 1894, which came into operation on the 1st January,
1896, and that it devolved upon this Committee to have the
care, management, and control of the undertaking.
The Committee at their first meeting unanimously elected
Mr. Wm. Truman, who has been associated with the Baths for
many years, as their Chairman.
The Accounts of the Baths have previously been made up
to the 31st December in each year; but, with a view of bringing
them into conformity with the Accounts of the Vestry, whose
financial year ends on the 25th March, this report, and the
figures contained therein, extend over a period of fifteen months,
from the 1st January, 1896, to the 25th March, 1897. the
figures for the year 1896 are, however, given separately to those
for the three months ending Lady-day.
