PARISH OF ST. JAMES, WESTMINSTER.
appendix to report of mfdical officer of health.
REPORT OF SANITARY INSPECTORS AS TO CONDITION
OF BAKEHOUSES IN THE PARISH DURING
THE YEAR 1896.
January 12th, 1897.
To the Public Health, Committee.
MB. Chairman and Gentlemen,
Wo beg to report That the whole of the Bakehouses
(numbering 27) in the Parish have been inspected by us
during the year 1896.
With but few exceptions the Bakehouses wore in very fair
condition, in two instances improvements have boon made in
the ventilation and drainage.
In eight cases it has been necessary to report certain slight
defects, which were readily remedied on request.
In one case we found that an underground room, immediately
adjoining and opening into the Bakehouse, was
being used for sleeping purposes ; this is, in our opinion, a very
undesirable state of things, and although the requirements of
the Factory and Workshop Acts are complied with, we
consider it would bo possible to deal with this case under the
Public Health (London) Act, 1891, and submit it to you for
consideration.
Ono of the Bakehouses, which was not in use at the time
of our last Report, has now been entirely demolished.
Taking the Bakehouses of the Parish generally they have
been kept in fair cleanly condition, and every facility has been
given by the owners of same for inspection when visited by us.
We are,
Mr. Chairman and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servants,
J. P. FOLLAND,
T. W. CALVERLEY,
Sanitary
Inspectors

PARISH OF ST. JAMES, WESTMINSTER.
